Skin Needling

Skin Needling is a non–invasive clinical treatment that uses microscopic needles to penetrate the skin within the epidermis and dermis. These channels cause keratinocytes, fibroblasts and melanocytes that produce numerous growth factors to improve and normalise various skin functions.  Skin needling is also known as (C.I.T) Collagen Induction Therapy which allows the body to regrow and repair the skin from the micro damage through the wound healing response. This helps stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.

Skin needling can visibly improve the appearance of:

•Fine Lines

•Wrinkles

•Trauma Scars, Scar Tissue

•Stretch Marks

•Pigmentation (Vitiligo, Melasma, Hypo & Hyper)

•Acne, Problematic Skin

•Rosacea

•Enlarged Pores

FAQs

What is Skin Needling?

Skin Needling, sometimes known as ‘Collagen Induction Therapy’ is a non surgical skin rejuvenation treatment that helps to restore collagen and elastin and improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

Our Skin Needling device is TGA approved and is one of the safest, most effective and comfortable micro needling devices currently on the market.

As we age our natural collagen production slows down, leading to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. During a treatment of Skin Needling, ultra-fine, medical grade needles create thousands of tiny punctures to the skin, stimulating a natural wound healing response that results in the formation of new collagen and elastin. New collagen production can continue for up to 12 months, resulting in an improvement in skin firmness and texture and a softening and lifting of scars and stretch marks. Skin Needling can also be used to diminish the appearance of pigmentation and sun damage, as well as improve uneven skin texture and stretched pores.

What does the treatment involve?

The skin is cleansed and topical anaesthetic is applied and left on the skin for 20 minutes. A sterile Skin Needling device is then used to vertically penetrate the skin with micro needles that are 0.20mm to 3.0mm in length. The pens needle speed and depth is adjusted depending on the skin concerns being treated. The needling takes approximately 20mins per area and feels like a vibration on the skin. During treatment DP Dermaceutics have be spefically personalised to infuse the right ingredients into the right depths during treatment to boost your results and aid in the wound healing process. Immediately after the treatment, you will notice a bright redness to the skin. On average, patients maybe red for 1-2 days. Minor skin shedding may occur 2-3 days post treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

It can take between 2 weeks to 6 months after each treatment before visible signs of skin regeneration are seen and the process will continue over the following months, providing a gradual enhancement. It is recommended to have the treatment sessions spaced at 4 to 6 week intervals to ensure the skin has had adequate time to heal.   Initially 3 courses 4-6 weeks apart are recommended for best results.

How long will the results last?

Like all rejuvenation treatments you do need to maintain some amount of upkeep. Your new collagen will continue to improve over 6-12 months and results can last up to 5 years. It is recommended that you do a top up treatment 1-2 times a year to maintain your results and further stimulate collagen development.

Who can have this treatment?

Skin Needling can be safely performed on all skin types (fair to darker skins) and is even suitable for sensitive or thin skinned clients.

Skin needling is not suitable for those who have been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months, have cystic acne, open wounds, infections, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated, have uncontrolled diabetes, are pregnant or breast feeding (pregnant and nursing women may still have the needling treatment without the topical anaesthetic applied), or who are prone to keloid scarring or other abnormal wound healing. Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises the body’s ability to grow new collagen.

Olive and darker skin clients are required to prep their skin on our recommended tyrosinase inhibiting serum for 2 weeks prior to having a Skin Needling performed.

Post care information?

A feeling of tightness is experienced and a “sunburnt” look is usually apparent immediately after treatment, a mild swelling may also occur subsiding over the next 24 hours. Slight redness may last 1-3 days but can be covered with mineral make up. Avoid skincare products that contain retinol, vitamin C, glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids.  Use your DP Dermaceutics Pre/Post Care kit for 2-3 days post treatment.  We advise that you use only gentle products for the days following your procedure and apply sunscreen regularly. Hot baths, showers and saunas should be avoided for at least 3-5 days.
